Witness #4 - Gene Wade

Why did the defense interview Gene Wade?  What does the letter prove about Sandy Townsend to the Jury?  How is Gene Wade's testimony and the letter an example of the use of Ethos?

The prosecution's interview of Gene Wade:

Comments

The defense interviewed Gene Wade because she had a tenant/landlord relationship with Sandy Townsend, she knew Sandy on a personal level. Sandy had tried to help Gene and her kids out by giving them a break on their rent. The letter gives the jury a little insight to the kind of person that Gene thought Sandy Townsend was. The letter and having Gene testify gives Sandy’s character credibility as a person who helps people in need, not as one who harms them.

During the mock trial when Gene Wade was being interviewed she used many ethos in her testimony. She talked about how Sandy lets her pay less rent sometimes to keep her and her five kids off of the streets. She also submitted a letter saying Sandy was her "hero" which shows good will. Gene Wade testified to build Sandy’s credibility.

Gene Wade also uses pathos when she talked about how difficult it has been since she has lost her husband five years ago. She has lots of fear when it comes to raising her five children alone. She has guilt for the way she raised her son because she feels she didn't do a very good job.

To me, her statement about Sandy is very logical. She only speaks of her experiences with her as a person and what she has done to help her.
