Bing Drinking on College Campuses
The million dollar question
administrators and parents of students at college campuses across America would like an answer
to is how to curb binge drinking at college campuses. Strict policy rules aren’t
working, and the fact that students are gathering by the hundreds in basements
and secret locations away from the public eye make the problem even more
dangerous. As crazy as it sounds, I think should we explore lowering the
drinking age.
I remember the dangerous environment
where I attended under-age drinking parties. They were a perfect storm for drug
use, sexual assault, and excessive alcohol consumption compared to a tavern.
While colleges continue to strengthen policies and crack down on it, binge
drinking related fatalities continue to rise according to an article by Kathleen
Reeves in 2009 at about binge drinking.
As unpopular as it may be to talk
about lowering the drinking age I don’t feel it is out of
the question. The status quo isn’t
safe the way it is and by design encourages alcohol abuse by making it a social
taboo to an age group that is rebellious by nature
