What is Sexual Assault?

The definition of Sexual Assault by the Sexual Assault Prevention & Awareness Center (SAPAC) (n.d.) is “any form of unwanted sexual contact obtained without consent and/or obtained through the use of force, threat of force, intimidation, or coercion” (para. 2). Sexual assault is nothing to joke about. It happens everyday and by people who could be sitting right next to you on the bus.

Unfortunately, sometimes you can’t protect yourself or stop a person from assaulting you. Sometimes predators use drugs to incapacitate you from saying anything or physically stopping your assailant. Sexual assault not only happens to normal people, but can also happen to people who are mentally or physically handicapped. These individuals may be incapable of physically of stopping the assailant or can't say anything because of mental issues. Therefore, we should not only protect ourselves, but we should watch out for others who could fall victim to this type of heinous crime.
