Another Juror's Perspective

As a juror at the mock trial, the evidence, and lack of evidence made me decide that the suspect was innocent. I felt the prosecution didn’t provide strong enough evidence to prove without doubt that the defendant was guilty. The witnesses for the prosecution were also weak. The friend who was there that night was not only under the influence, but did not see the defendant or victim with the pills. He was also unsure of the events of the night due to being under the influence of alcohol.

I also felt that the medical examiner was not fully credible. She did not have a working knowledge of the victim’s medical condition. Also, being an expert in overdose deaths, I feel that she might have been blinded by the fact that Oxycontin was in the victim’s system, and did not investigate for further cause of death.

The defense I felt had better witnesses. The doctor who was the expert witness did have knowledge of the victim’s condition, and explained how his body was being effected. I also felt that the defendant himself had a clearer idea of the events of the night, and the friend witness gave good testimony about the victim’s recent bad life choices.
