Parker Avery Takes the Stand

Comments

In his testimony, EMT Parker Avery says that, while at the scene trying to resuscitate Riley Thomas, he overheard the defendant state, “I never should have given Riley those pills.” While I believe that the testimony of EMT Avery could have provided needed evidence to help sway the jurors to come to the conclusion that the defendant is guilty; I also find that, as it is often noted by psychologists such as Clark and Godfrey, eyewitness testimonies can sometimes be an untrustworthy source due to memory distortion or susceptibility to suggestion when the witness is what recalling what they had witnessed (Clark & Godfrey, 2009). Therefore, I find that EMT Avery’s testimony will not be a key deciding factor in the jury’s decision and overall will not help the prosecution.
